Mary Ann is an organized, detail-orientated and resourceful self-starter with a solid knowledge of the filmmaking process.  With strong writing, communication and interpersonal skills, she thrives in fast-paced, creative environments.


Mary Ann directed the music video/short film hybrid Arlington by singer-songwriter, Lisa Nemzo. Inspired by a true story, the film is intended to honor our fallen soldiers. She also wrote the scenario, produced with Nemzo, and co-edited with Bob Bayless. Scheduled for 2012 release.

                                    

Under a WGA new media contract. Mary Ann recently wrote comedy episodes for the series "Positive Placement People," scheduled for release in spring of 2012. She is also credited as consulting producer.


Mary Ann has written, directed and produced over a dozen short films and documentaries.  Her producing/writing/directing debut, The Rib (35mm 1999), premiered at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, won the Award for Artistic Achievement from the International Cinematographers Guild and received screenings at the Cannes Film Festival and in various national and international festivals.  It received distribution from Dark Matter Films. 


She produced, wrote and directed Marauder, the pilot for BackStreet Musical, a satirical contemporary musical of The Three Penny Opera, created in collaboration with her partner, composer Bob Bayless.  Shot guerilla-style on the streets of Hollywood, Mary Ann’s company, Hollywood Dell Digital Studios, produced and provided creative postproduction editorial and music services.


As staff writer/director/field producer for the Internet series, Aliendog, Mary Ann directed a dozen webisodes, including Going the Distance, which was nominated for a Pixie Award.  Her other producing/directing/editing experience includes The Real Horror Behind “Leben Tod, a documentary that explores the blood and guts that it took to film the award-winning, cult horror classic.  She also hosted, produced and edited both a music/interview cable series and radio interview show on the collaborative art of filmmaking.


Mary Ann's diverse experience includes editing over thirty feature films, documentaries, shorts and transmedia projects.  Award-winning credits include Sundance premiere, Christmas in the Clouds; Methodfest Maverick Award winner for Best Low Budget Feature, The Stonecutter; Spirit of Independent Award winner, Reservations featuring an international ensemble including Ulrich Thomsen (Susanne Bier’s Brothers) and Pasha Lychnikoff (Star Trek); the award winning short, Mulligans, starring Tippi Hedron; Tribeca Premiere, Shadow of Afghanistan for Oscar-nominated documentarians, Jim Burroughs/Suzanne Bauman, as well as studio films such as Damon Wayan’s Major Payne for Universal and Bob Clark’s Baby Geniuses for Columbia.


Graduating with honors in directing/acting from the University of Illinois Theatre Department, after graduation Mary Ann studied screenwriting with UCLA Writer’s Program, completed Writers’ Bootcamp and Think Tank and won a writing fellowship to work with an industry producer through Writers’ Bootcamp Professional Track.  She is currently a member of the Writer's Bootcamp Bivouac Professional Screenwriters association. Her student project was one of five films selected from among 150 students for the highly competitive UCLA Extension: Making the Short Fiction Film program.


As a freelance journalist, specializing in the art and craft of filmmaking, Mary Ann has extensive interview experience probing the creative genius of high-profile filmmakers such as writer/director Jason Reitman and writer/actor Sam Shepard.  A contributing writer for Below the Line Magazine, she is regularly published in entertainment industry publications including Student Filmmakers, VFX World, Animation World Network and Film and Video.  As accredited press she has covered numerous awards shows and film festivals including Sundance, Slamdance and LAFF.
